July 5th- second day of classes and biking along Rio Tormes
Hola!! Today was the fifth day in Salamanca and every day continues to amaze me.
This morning we arrived at the the Plaza at 8:45 and headed to the University for our second day of classes. In class today the intermediate and advanced students learned about describing a person's features. A culture class followed after the first three hours of classes focusing solely on the language. In the culture class today both the intermediate classes and advanced classes studied the provinces of Spain. The classes are very helpful and teach the students a lot of different information, overall all the classes provide a good challenge for us. All of the classes are solely in Spanish therefore we benefit more because all comprehension is done in Spanish along with the speaking.
Now to the fun stuff.... After everyone returned to their new homes for the next few weeks we proceeded to eat lunch with our families, and enjoyed a few hours of rest which is also know as siesta here in Spain. Following lunch and siesta, everyone met at the Plaza at six o'clock on the dot. Together we all walked the streets of Salamanca to find ourselves at a small bike store, where we all excitedly hopped on bikes (some of us even tried tandem), in preparation for the bike tour. As we road bikes in exception to Jaycee, Mrs. Lavault, and myself, who walked we took in the beautiful view and the wonderful weather. Once we arrived at our destination, we all gathered together and ate different snacks for the picnic. Monica, our API instructor even brought us empanadas to try. In addition to the picnic, we met two cute little girls at the park along with three guys who had a step up tightrope in between two trees. All of us attempted the tightrope and enjoyed many laughs with our new friends. Finally we took a few pictures and then we were on our way. Overall today was very successful and I cannot wait to see what is in store for us tomorrow!
One thing I learned from today is that when riding bikes or walking be prepared with water, comfortable clothing, and most importantly comfortable shoes!
